Interesting facts about the HTTV

The Hessian Table Tennis Association (HTTV) was founded in 1946 and is now the fifth largest regional association in the German Table Tennis Association (DTTB). With over 900 member clubs and around 50,000 eligible members, the HTTV is one of the most important sports associations in Hesse.

DThe association is dedicated to promoting table tennis in all its facets. Its commitment encompasses both recreational and competitive sports. In high-performance sports, the HTTV has been one of the most successful regional associations in Germany for many years. Several top players, such as Jörg Roßkopf, Timo Boll and Patrick Franziska, began their sporting careers in Hesse, where they were decisively shaped. The HTTV has achieved impressive successes in the youth sector. For example, Hesse was the overall winner of the German Youth Cup in 2022, 2023 and 2025. A particularly impressive achievement was the fivefold success in the German Youth Ranking 13 in 2024 – proof of the excellent youth work carried out by the association. In order to continue this success story and remain at the top in a nationwide comparison, the HTTV maintains a structured and performance-oriented support system. The heart of the association is the state training centre in Frankfurt, where training sessions take place almost daily and up to 15 courses are held each year. Thanks to the optimal equipment provided by GEWO, the young athletes find ideal conditions for their athletic development here. In addition, the HTTV operates another state training centre in Fulda and Salmünster. Each of the association's four districts also has a talent base to discover and specifically promote talented athletes close to their homes.

However, competitive sport at grassroots level is also particularly important to the HTTV. With almost 5,000 registered teams, team competitions form the foundation of organised competitive sport within the association. This offering is complemented by, among other things, the VR Cup, a low-threshold tournament format that enjoys great popularity: every year, several hundred tournaments are held with over 5,000 registered participants.

Another focus is increasingly on recruiting new members. The ‘Aufbruch’ initiative, supported by GEWO, aims to help clubs attract new members and thus secure the future of table tennis in Hesse in the long term.
